Coaching With Kim or

How To Do Wonders With A Simple Conversation!

What is already working in your relationship? If you are wondering what relationship coaching with Kim Kirkley is like, imagine an experience where you feel heard, appreciated and exquisitely connected to your beloved. Take a moment and soak it in. That’s what a coaching session with Kim is like. After they get over any initial hesitations, couples tell Kim that they look forward to each meeting.

Kim follows the philosophy of Appreciative Inquiry which is defined as “A process, philosophy, and life practice grounded in research demonstrating that focusing on what’s working and aspirations for the future achieves more and does it faster and more sustainably than solving problems.” [Holman & Cato] It is a way to spark powerful and purposeful change without focusing on problems. We know that what we focus on grows so why not focus on what we want more of? Appreciative inquiry acts on the assumption that whatever we are seeking to increase already is present. Unlike counseling we focus on connecting and noticing what is already giving you joy. We unearth dreams and the themes that are present in your relationship. Coaching with Kim is grounded in the celebrating your best memories. We believe that we always bring part of the past into the present and the future, so why not bring the best part of the past into the present and the future?

The assumptions of Appreciative Inquiry are [per Sue Hammond]:

1.     In every society, organization or group, something works.

2.     What we focus on becomes our reality.

3.     Reality is created in the moment and there are multiple realities.

4.     The act of asking questions of an organization or group influences the group in some way.

5.     People have more confidence and comfort in the journey to the future (the unknown) when they carry forward parts of the past (the known).

6.     If we carry parts of the past forward, they should be what is best about the past.

7.     It is important to value differences.

8.     The language we use creates our reality.

Hopefully, these ideas make sense to you. After our sessions, couples tell me that conversing according to the principles of Appreciative Inquiry help them to enliven their connection to each other. These sessions are about LOVE and making it touch your hearts, easier and with a bigger impact than you are used to. It’s about recognizing and celebrating the magic in your relationship.

Now that you know the foundation of Kim’s coaching, let’s get to the really good part:  the result of having an Appreciative Conversation with your spouse under Kim’s guidance = more love given and received, cheerfully, guiltlessly, confidently, securely, abundantly!
